Hey Geeks,

I don’t normally report on the Box Office numbers because I don’t find it very interesting. But every once in a while, a movie comes a long and surprises the world and I have to give it the credit it deserves. Deadpool has officially “tea-bagged” the Box Office, earning a record shattering 135 million over the President’s Day weekend. (Not including Monday!) That’s incredible considering it was only estimated to hit around 65 million. When all is said and done, it’s predicted that Deadpool could clear an estimated 160 million over the 4 day weekend, making Tim Miller and Ryan Reynolds VIP’s in the Hollywood Elite. Fortune and Glory kid!

This is an example of the Hollywood process firing on all cylinders! You had 20th Century Fox and Marvel Entertainment believing in the talent of Miller and Reynolds, who championed the project for years. You had a perfectly written script by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, that was comedy genius and pulled no punches. Add all that to a perfectly executed marketing campaign and the result is one of the funniest movies you’ll experience in a movie theater, in years. By the looks of the numbers, The Geeks Abide!

So what do you do when you have a Mega-Hit on your hands? Sequel up partner!

Potential Spoilers Below. Choose Wisely….

stephen_langOne of the post credits scenes features Deadpool announcing the premiere of Cable in the sequel. How does a time traveling mutant soldier and future leader of the X-Force, fit into the Deadpool sequel? Well, I’m not going to write the script for you, you’ll have to wait and see. But I will tell you that actor Stephen Lang is campaigning for the job, pretty hard. I’m not familiar with Cable as a character, so I’m going to wait and see what Miller and Reynolds deliver next. Hopefully the studio stays out of their way again….

Who would you like to see cast as Cable?

As always,

The Geek Abides
