What up Geeks!
After a long memorial day weekend of visiting parents and shooting video reviews, I finally got the chance to sit down to watch some TV. I decided to check out an early look at the new Robert Kirkman show, ‘Outcast‘ which stars Patrick Fugit, (Almost Famous) as Kyle Barnes, who’s battling psychological scars due to a history of demonic possession surrounding those he loves. He’s lost his wife and daughter! He’s lost his mom and he’s nearly lost his mind!
The show also features Philip Glenister as Reverend Anderson, who seems to be a part time exorcist who’s investigating the increasing phenomenon of demonic possession. The two men are connected somehow and I assume as the series progresses we’ll find out how. The first episode has them reconnecting over the case of a possessed young boy, who is creepy as hell!
This show has balls people! At one point, Kyle Barnes fully mounts a possessed 8 year old boy and proceeds to smash his face in with his fists. With the show being on Cinemax, the show is free to explore the darker…bloodier themes of possession without being held back by network tv’s standards and practices!
Now I’m a sucker for demonic possession stories. The Exorcist is one of my favorite horror films of all time! But it’s rare for a movie or show to live up to that movie. Most attempts to create a decent possession film fall flat on their face. I’m happy to say that ‘Outcast‘ has the potential to be fantastic. After this first episode, I’m excited to see more!
‘Outcast‘ premieres on Cinemax on June 3rd….but you can watch episode 1 below!
until next time,
