As every day passes, The Dark Tower: The Gunslinger film series becomes more and more real! We’ve already reported on the casting of Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey as Roland The Gunslinger and Walter O’Dim, aka The Man in black, aka Randall Flagg. (The Walking Dude goes by many names!) Now, Variety has confirmed, in my opinion, the most important casting news for the film!
Child actor Tom Taylor will play the role of Jake Chambers, which book readers will recognize as the young boy Roland befriends while on the trail of the Man in Black. A newcomer to the acting world, Taylor only has a handful of British tv shows on his resume. This is a bold move as a movie can be made or broken on back of a child’s acting skill. (See Star Wars: The Phantom Menace.) The character of Jake is a pivotal part of the overall Dark Tower story. So the casting is crucial here! This actor could literally make or break the entire franchise, making this the most pivotal role to be cast. I will say, he absolutely looks the part. He’s exactly as I saw Jake in my mind, reading the books as a young teen. I’ve personally never seen anything he’s in, so I’m hoping his acting skills can keep up with Elba and McConaughey.
Rumors are also circulating that Breaking Bad star, Aaron Paul may have been cast as Eddie Dean. Paul has been campaigning for the role, for years now, going as far has tweeting to Stephen King himself, to put a good word in for him.
@aaronpaul_8 Indeed I will. I’m a big fan.
